Spectre

Factory Entertainment produced two replica props from Spectre, one being of the highly-anticipated Day of the Dead skeleton mask that was worn by Daniel Craig in the pre-title sequence, and the other being one of the Day of the Dead canes used by Craig in the PTS that received a ho-hum response from Bond fans when announced.  The reactions to each prop reversed when they were issued.  Despite assurances from Factory Entertainment that the mask was modeled copying the dimensions of the mask worn by Craig, the prop was demonstrably bigger and out of proportion to an average-sized head, and the general collector reaction was one of great disappointment.  The cane seemed to have a redeemed reception once released, although I do not feel there was still significant enthusiasm for the prop.  Still, they are what they are, officially-licensed replica props.  I have two of the skeleton masks (how unfortunate for me), Numbers 271 and 447 of 500, and one of the cane, Number 267 of 500.  Count me among those extremely disappointed with the skeleton mask, and underwhelmed by the cane prop.

Factory Entertainment produced a limited edition of Blofeld's Spectre ring.  The ring worn by Christoph Waltz as Blofeld was gold; all the other rings were silver.  Comes in a somewhat impressive display box.  Designated as a limited edition, I found no information as to the size of the edition or my particular ring number.

Factory Entertainment came out with its own licensed version of the SPECTRE ring.  Theirs is a bit darker in color than most of the fan-made replicas.  Very plain in its presentation, the ring is not a limited edition prop replica.

Day Of The Dead crew poster

Picture
Picture
This is a limited edition poster commissioned by Sam Mendes, director of Spectre, given to the cast and crew by Mendes as a personal thank you for their work on the production.  The poster was issued in two series: a run of 1,000 posters for crew and production staff, and a run of 100 for the main cast.  This one is a crew poster, number 43 of 1,000.  It has been hand- numbered and signed "Love Sam" by Mendes.  On the reverse is a "SPECTRE - 007" label listing the filming locations: Mexico, London, Rome, Austria, Morocco.  Also included is the original tube in which the poster was rolled.  This is the same design as seen on posters visible in the lengthy pre-titles sequence of the film.

Estrella's Mask

Picture
The pre-title sequence of SPECTRE is, in my opinion, one of the best in the series.  Wildly conceived, wonderfully written and beautifully filmed, we find ourselves in Mexico City during the Day of the Dead festivities.  Bond, wearing the skeleton mask as shown above and below, is accompanied by the lovely Estrella as he stalks his target, Marco Sciarra.  At left is an exquisite replica of the mask worn by Estrella for the first half of the PTS.

Fan-made prop replicas.  On the left, a light-up version (but it does not scan) of the portable DNA analyzer used by Q, and on the right is the analyzer with a SPECTRE ring.  Two excellent prop replicas!

Although in no way screen-accurate, I have put together a top hat and a skeleton face mask on a mannequin head in such a way that I think evokes the spirit of the costumes seen in the Day of the Dead festival in the PTS.
