Casino Royale

At the risk of starting an unwanted debate about the merits of any particular James Bond film, I'll once again offer my opinion, this time on Casino Royale.  I think it is just about the perfect Bond movie.  Coming after the plot excesses in Die Another Day, it was exciting to go back to Fleming's original material.  The movie was loyal to the book.  I was excited about (and really enjoyed) Daniel Craig's performance.  I found the idea of a re-boot to be intriguing.  I thought it had a great cast and an excellent director and crew.  I do not have anything negative to say about the film.

I mentioned in the Home section of this website that a lot of the Craig-era collectibles are clothing, sunglasses, swim shorts, etc., and collecting that is just not my thing.  I admire those who do follow collecting those items, and many are very passionate about it.  I recommend you to others if you want to follow clothing collectibles for Bond.

I do have some collectibles for Casino Royale that I find interesting, and I hope you will enjoy looking at them.

VILLIAN SCREEN-USED MACHETE
Picture
Casino Royale was a movie filled with many great action sequences.  One of those involved a fight in a stair well, principally between Obanno and Bond, and the weapon used was a machete.  Above is the machete used in filming that sequence.  It shows a bit of wear from the filming, but is in overall very good condition.

ALGERIAN LOVE KNOT AND EARRINGS

Picture

Jewelry designer Sophie Harley supplied the Algerian Love Knot Necklace, and two complimentary sets of earrings, to be worn by Eva Green as Vesper Lynd during the filming.  The necklace played a pivotal part in the blossoming love affair between Bond and Vesper.  I purchased from Sophie Harley duplicate pieces to those she supplied for the filming, and those pieces are shown above.

SCREEN-USED CASINO PLAQUES

Picture
Two casino plaques, in denominations of $500,000 and $1,000,000 used in the Montenegro Casino Royale scenes.  The provenance for the plaques being screen-used comes from Eon Productions.

Screen-seen prop drinks menu made specifically for the fictional Casino Royale.  Inside are 4 pages which comprise the cocktail offerings.  Cover is leather and the prop is in excellent condition.

Picture
Screen-used porcelain napkin ring and screen-used porcelain sugar caddy made specifically for the fictional Hotel Splendide in Montenegro.  These items were part of a tea set that can be seen in the background of Bond's suite.  Only two each of these porcelain pieces were created for the film, and they are the only non-paper props known to bear the Hotel Splendide logo.  Both pieces are in immaculate condition.

This prop was used in the filming of Casino Royale, and the newspaper article details the killing of Molakka in Madagascar and has a picture captured from the Nambutu Embassy's closed-circuit television system.

"3 measures of Gordons, 1 of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet, shake it over ice.
Then add a thin slice of lemon peel."
Picture
Ian Fleming's classic recipe for the Vesper martini, as voiced by James Bond in both the novel and the movie, is engraved on the side of this beautiful cocktail shaker.  So no matter how many martinis you've had, the ingredients for your next Vesper will always be at hand.

Issued in 2008 as part of its Villain Collection, this watch was named for Le Chiffre.  The design of the face reminds me of the titles sequence for Casino Royale, one of my favorite of the whole series.

The souvenir program from the Royal World Performance of Casino Royale held at Leicester Square and attended by HRH Queen Elizabeth.

An Aston Martin keyring like the one Dimitrios tossed into the pot as part of his bet while playing poker with Bond at The Ocean Club.  I have dressed mine with an old Aston Martin key, not seen in the film.
Picture
A couple of room cards for the Hotel Splendide in Montenegro.  These were used in filming as set dressing.
Picture
A fan-made replica of the bomb trigger deployed by Carlos at the Miami airport in an attempt to blow up the Skyfleet prototype plane.  This particular model has a flashing red light similar to that seen in the movie.

Picture
One of the jewel cases used as set dressing for the scenes in the Security Office of The Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.  One of a couple of hundred made, only one case was to be clearly seen, so all of the jewel cases had the same front label.

This piece is a letter from Moneypenny used as set dressing in Casino Royale.

A promotional handout used for display purposes in filming the Body Worlds scenes.  These pieces were made specifically for the filming, and my piece is one of the ones used for display purposes in dressing the set.

Replica of the EU Passport for Bond posing as Arlington Beech.

A complete playing set in a Casino Royale-themed box.  It consists of two decks of cards, dealer chip, and gambling chips in various denominations.  From Cartamundi, who made the cards and chips for the filming sequences.

A pair of Aston Martin Hot Wheels.
Picture
A silver money clip from the manufacturer who supplied the money clip used in filming.  The clip that appeared in the movie had an 'f' at the bottom signifying the year 2005; mine has a 'k' for a later year of manufacture.

A copy of the screenplay for Casino Royale, dated December 3, 2005 (Second Set of Revisions), bearing signatures of Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Eva Green, Mads Milkkelsen, and Isaach De Bankole (Obanno).  The script came with a Certificate of Authenticity from the seller, but no back-up evidence for authenticity has been provided and I have made no attempt to have any of the signatures authenticated.

Shadow box of mementoes from Casino Royale.  Items include a miniature copy of the promotional poster, scenes from the film, cards showing Bond's winning hand, more cards and casino chips, Walther P-99 with suppressor, and clips from a movie strip of film.
