BOOKS
THE IAN FLEMING NOVELS
I have not tried to collect any first editions of the Fleming novels (too rich for my blood, I believe the saying goes) but I have collected what I believe to be the next best thing. With authorization from Ian Fleming's estate and from the original British publisher, a company called The First Edition Library released all 14 of Fleming's novels, authentically replicated exactly as first published by Jonathan Cape in London in the '50s and '60s. The books feature the same typography, identical bindings, and the same dust jackets. They are perfect copies in every way, with only three changes from the original first editions: 1) the printing date of the new edition is added to the date the novel was first published, 2) the book is printed on acid-neutral paper, and 3) each book and dust jacket are enclosed in a hardcover slipcase (also decorated with the dust jacket art) for protection of the book and dust jacket. The books were sent serially, about every 6 weeks, in the order in which they were originally published. I read each novel (some for the very first time) immediately upon receipt. It was like I was on Ian Fleming's mailing list for his novels when each was published. It was a great way to re-read the novels, and the authenticity of the books made me feel like I was a part of history holding them. A great set of collectibles!

And "You Asked For It"...
Because the title 'Casino Royale' was thought to be confusing to an American audience, the first James Bond novel also appeared in the United States under the title 'You Asked For It'. My copy was printed by Popular Library in April 1955 and sold for 25 cents. It is in good condition, showing few signs of wear for a paperback book of that age.

'BIRDS OF THE WEST INDIES' - AUTOGRAPHED BY JAMES BOND
It seemed too good to be true - a London bookseller offering a 1936 first edition, first printing, 'Birds of the West Indies' authored by James Bond. But there was more. Inside, the book bore a writing: 'Sincere regards, Jim Bond'. Could it be that the book had been autographed by James Bond himself? Not Ian Fleming, or some British agent who supposedly was the model for Agent 007, but the real, actual James Bond from whom Fleming commandeered the name? I contacted Drexel University in Philadelphia (the Academy of Natural Sciences, for whom Bond was a Research Assistant at the time of publication, became a part of Drexel University) and had an archivist track down known handwriting samples for Professor Bond. I then engaged a forensic document examiner employed by a national handwriting and document examination firm, who trained at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and was certified by the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners, to examine the signed book and compare the signature in it to the exemplars from Drexel. Her conclusion: the autograph was an original signature, in time period-appropriate ink, made by Professor James Bond. This may not be one of a kind, but it has to be an extremely rare Bond collectible.

MAGAZINES
007 Magazine
'007 Magazine' began life in April 1979 as a fan publication of the newly-formed James Bond British Fan Club. No fan magazine has had the staying power of '007 Magazine', sporadically but continually publishing as the James Bond British Fan Club became the James Bond International Fan Club. Later, the magazine passed to the control of Graham Rye, who is still editor today. Under Graham's reign, the magazine has become known for its slick appearance, its insightful articles and, most of all, its spectacular photos and layout. You will see below, however, that the magazine began its life humbly before growing into the sophisticated publication it is today.
April 1979 - Issue Number 1 of '007 Magazine', a mimeographed 1-sheet, double-sided, publication of The James Bond British Fan Club.
I have all of the numbered issues of '007 Magazine', numbers 1 through 59. Number 57 has three different covers, and I have one of each. Number 39 has three different covers and I have one of each, featuring Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moore. To the best of my knowledge, all are the original-issue copies, and not reprints.
Between issues of the magazine, the Club issued shorter newsletters under various names beginning with 'For Your Eyes Only', then '007 Extras', then just 'Newsletters'. There was also one '007 Bulletin'. Below is a listing of the issues:
For Your Eyes Only - Volume 1 has 12 issues, and I have all but Number 2; Volume 2 has 12 issues, I have only Numbers 1 and 6; Volume 3 has 12 issues, I have only Numbers 7, 9 and 12; and Volume 4 has 6 issues and I have all 6.
007 Extras - Single issues Numbers 1 through 12, and a double issue Numbers 13 and 14. I have all but issue Number 7.
Newsletters - Single issues Numbers 15 through 21, and a double issue Numbers 22 and 23. I have all but issue Number 19.
007 Bulletin - Issued between magazine numbers 35 and 36, it detailed the move of the '007 Magazine' headquarters.
In addition to the issues listed above, Graham Rye has produced numerous special-topic magazines under the '007 Magazine' banner as special editions or a group called the 'Archive Files'. I certainly do not have all of these special editions, and the ones I do have are too numerous to list here, but examples of the ones I have are: the Thunderball 40th Anniversary Edition (and the 50th Anniversary reissue), the You Only Live Twice 50th Anniversary Edition, The Most Famous Gun In The World issue, the '007 Magazine' 40th Anniversary issue, the Goldfinger Portfolio issues 1-5, the James Bond Girls issue, the Bond Girls of the 60's issues, and the Bond Girls of the 70's issue.

Goldeneye Magazine
'Goldeneye' Magazine was a sophisticated, slick publication of the Ian Fleming Foundation, edited by John Cork. Only 8 issues were published, and I have all 8 issues of the magazine. There was also a newsletter, the 'Goldeneye Gleaner', published in four issues. I have Volume 1, Nos. 1 and 2, of the 'Goldeneye Gleaner', and the Summer 1998 Catalog of the Ian Fleming Foundation issued as a Goldeneye Gleaner Supplement. Lastly, I have Volume 1, Issue 4b of the newsletter "Shaken, Not Stirred'. This magazine is a very desirable collectible.
Bondage Magazine
There were 17 issues of 'Bondage' Magazine published by the American James Bond Fan Club, and I have all of the magazine issues. There was also a newsletter published, called the 'Bondage Quarterly'. I am unsure of the total number of issues, but I have the following: Volume 1, Numbers 5, 7 and 8; Volume 2, Numbers 1 through 4; Volume 3, Numbers 1 through 4; Volume 4, Numbers 1 through 4; Volume 5, Numbers 1 and 2; Volume 6, Numbers 1 and 2; and Volume 7, Number 1, which was the last issue published.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Magazine
Six issues were published by the James Bond International Fan Club, and I have all six. At the end of the six issues, the Club began publishing the MI6 Confidential Magazine (see below). I guess this was a case of "You've had your six." (Apologies to James Bond in Dr. No)
MI6 Confidential Magazine
The James Bond International Fan Club moved its publishing efforts from 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Magazine' (see above) to 'MI6 Confidential Magazine'. It is currently still in publication, and I have all of the regular numbered issues published. In addition, there have been four Commemorative Editions published, and I have all four of those. Interestingly, the first 8 issues were titled 'MI6 Declassified'.
